How to Erase iPhone Without iCloud Password

There could be many reasons why you might want to reset your iPhone. Maybe you’re experiencing technical issues with your iOS smartphone, or perhaps you want to get rid of your data (safely and securely) before moving to another phone. No matter the reason behind your decision, we’ll show you how to reset your iPhone without an iCloud password.

Before we proceed, know that there are several equally effective ways to go through factory-resetting your phone. Perhaps the easiest one is to use your iPhone and erase its contents via the Settings app. However, if you’ve been using iTunes to backup your phone, it’s a good idea to use that application to erase the contents of your phone as well.

There are also certain cases where erasing an iPhone should be done via third-party software. For example, if you have the ‘Find My iPhone’ feature enabled or your iPhone has a passcode that you can’t remember. Don’t worry; We’re here to explain all there’s to know.

So, let’s jump right in. Here are all the ways to reset iPhone without iCloud password.

Method 1. Factory Reset iPhone Without iCloud Password via Settings

The easiest way to factory reset an iPhone without an iCloud password is via the Settings app. However, before we reveal our instructions, keep in mind that this method only works in specific cases.

More precisely, you can use this method if the ‘Find My iPhone’ feature isn’t enabled on your phone. And in addition to that, there should not be any restriction passcodes in place. In other words, if you can get past your iPhone’s lock screen, the following method will come in handy.

So, here’s how to factory reset your iPhone via the Settings app.

Step 1: Navigate to the Settings app on your iPhone. Then, tap to ‘General.’

Step 2: Scroll down and tap on ‘Reset.’ This should reveal three groups of settings.

Step 3: You now need to tap on ‘Erase All Content and Settings.’

Step 4: You might be asked to update your backup (if you haven’t updated it in a while). If you don’t wish to do so, tap on ‘Erase Now.’

Step 5: Finally, tap on ‘Erase iPhone.’ That’s it! Keep in mind that this process might take some time. However, you’ll get to keep track of it by taking a look at your iPhone’s screen.

Once this process is done, your iPhone will return to its factory settings. This means that it will restart, and then you’ll be greeted by its setup guide. You’ll be able to set your phone as a new device or restore it from a backup.

Method 2. Erase iPhone Without iCloud Password When ‘Find My iPhone’ is ON

Let’s say that you want to erase your iPhone, but you can’t remember your iCloud password, or perhaps your Apple ID is disabled. The same goes for devices with the ‘Find My iPhone’ feature enabled and running. This indeed is a dire situation, and there’s no way to factory restore your iPhone in this case – unless you use third-party iPhone passcode unlock software.

With that said, we’d like to introduce you to an incredibly handy and powerful application called Tenorshare 4uKey. You can use this application to unlock your Apple ID. However, this process also includes resetting your iPhone, which is how you’ll get to erase its contents. For additional information, we recommend reading our hands-on Tenorshare 4uKey review, where you’ll get to learn about the full scope of this application.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Before we jump in, know that the following process isn’t available on iOS 11.4 and above – if ‘Find My iPhone’ is enabled and running. However, if your iPhone is running an iOS version from 10.2 to 11.3 – Tenorshare 4uKey will unlock your phone and delete its contents during the process.

In case ‘Find My iPhone’ isn’t running on your phone, all iOS versions are supported. Differently said, the following process will erase your iPhone and return it to its factory settings.

So, here are the steps to securely erase your iPhone without an iCloud password by using Tenorshare 4uKey.

Step 1: First, you need to download and install Tenorshare 4uKey. The application is available for Windows and macOS, and it comes incredibly lightweight in terms of its size and performance.

Unlock Apple ID

Step 4: Make sure to tap on ‘Reset All Settings.’ Confirm your decision by tapping on ‘Reset All Settings’ once again.

Step 5: You’ll now need to wait for this process to end. Tenorshare 4uKey will remove your Apple ID, so make sure not to disconnect your iPhone before this procedure is done. Be patient and wait – this process could take a while.

During this process, Tenorshare 4uKey will delete the previously set Apple ID. However, the software will also completely wipe data from your device. That means that your iPhone’s contents will be erased during this process. Once everything is done, feel free to sign-in again using a new Apple ID on your iPhone.

IMPORTANT: As Tenorshare 4uKey will warn you, make sure NOT to restore or update your iPhone using iTunes. That’s because your phone will then need to be activated using the original Apple ID. You’ll certainly want to avoid that, so once again – make sure not to use iTunes to reset/update your iPhone.

Method 3. How to Reset iPhone Without iCloud Password via iTunes

There’s also a way to reset your iPhone via iTunes. For this process to be completed, you need to have the ‘Find My iPhone’ feature disabled on your phone. Therefore, if you meet that requirement, don’t forget to update iTunes to the latest available version and proceed.

Also, one additional note. iTunes is still available on Windows. However, macOS Catalina users no longer have access to this application. Instead, you can use macOS’s Finder, where you’ll see the same interface that was once available via iTunes (as soon as you connect your phone). Don’t worry; We’ll explain everything as we go.

We recommend using recovery mode in this case, as this puts your iPhone into a state where iTunes can be used to reinstall iOS completely. This means that everything on your phone will be adequately erased so that you can start from scratch. So, here’s how to put different iPhone generations into recovery mode.

  • iPhone 12/11/XS/XR/X/8: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button, and then press and release the Volume Down button. Finally, press and make sure to hold the Side button. The recovery mode screen should appear after a few moments.
  • iPhone 7/7 Plus: You need to press and hold the Side and Volume Down buttons simultaneously. Make sure to keep them pressed until the recovery mode screen appears.
  • iPhone 6S and earlier: Here, we have iPhones with the physical Home button. Make sure to press and hold the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons simultaneously. Keep them pressed until the recovery mode screen is visible.

If you haven’t done that already, connect your iPhone to your computer. Now, here’s how to reset iPhone without an iCloud password via iTunes.

Step 1: If you’re using Windows, launch iTunes. Suppose you have the latest version of macOS (Catalina), launch Finder, and make sure to click on your iPhone in the sidebar (on the left).

Step 2: iTunes should now detect your iPhone, which is in recovery mode. Don’t worry if this process takes a couple of seconds. And in case you fail on the first try (for whatever reason), you can always go back to your iPhone and once again put it in recovery mode.

Step 3: You should now see a prompt asking whether you’d like to restore or update it. You can go with ‘Restore.’

Step 4: iTunes will display another message, saying that your iPhone will be erased while being updated to the latest software version. Click on ‘Restore and Update.’

Keep in mind that factory-resetting your iPhone can take some time. After all, iTunes will need to download the latest iOS version available, unpack the installation file, and reinstall iOS on your device. Once done, you’ll get to set up your iPhone as a new device or restore an iCloud backup (if you have one saved).
